Tusshar Kapoor talks about his forthcoming film "Kyaa Kool Hai Hum"

I would love to do a Gurinder Chaddha or Mira Nair film Tusshar Kapoor

Riteish Deskhmukh might have learnt a few tricks of comedy through Fun and Vashu Bhagnani's Out of Control but for Tusshar Kapoor learning the timing of comedy came through a one-day workshop and also observing Hollywood actor Robert De Niro. This and a lot more was what preceded the shooting of Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, his forthcoming film that also features Riteish. Tusshar is in New Delhi, as joyful and amiable as ever, ready to share his experience of the film slated for release shortly.

"I had already done a little bit of comedy in Gayab but for Kyaa Kool, ... I took special care that I handle it in most natural way. After that initial teething problem where we took time to establish a rapport with each other, everything started falling into place. Our director Sangeeth Sivan held a one-day workshop for me and Riteish to create a chemistry between us as we are thick friends in the film and have done many comic scenes together. I also closely observed Robert De Niro's body language in a few of his comic films. It taught me that you should let yourself free while enacting a comic scene. I have done my best in the film," says Tusshar.

Some pranks

Tusshar plays Rahul in the film, a simple and hardworking man by temperament who ends up committing a lot of pranks, fooling people, even picking pockets on his way to becoming a fashion designer. While shooting he had trouble with a burning cigarette that fell on his clothes causing itching all over.

"In a scene I had to rush from a shopping centre through the crowds. When I ran, I bumped into someone whose burning cigarette caught on my clothes. I didn't know what to do as there were 500-odd people watching. This was the most embarrassing moment for me," recalls Tusshar.

If you want to know why Tusshar is not seen in many films, it is his conscious decision. "I am going to be here for 30 more years. My father (actor Jitendra) tells me that I might take time in going high as he did. Despite being a star son, I also had my share of struggle. The only mileage I got is that people came to see me in my first film as they knew my father. After Khakee I got a lot of similar offers but I restrained myself. I would love to do a Gurinder Chaddha or Mira Nair film," says Tusshar, whose fame has reached even Omar Sharief, Pakistan's famous comedy wizard.

"He offered me a lead role in his directorial venture in films but for that I had to stay in New York for four months, which was not possible for me. So I had to decline the offer," adds Tusshar with some regret in his voice.

Also waiting to prove his mettle in production and business "some time later," Tusshar for now is concentrating on his three forthcoming films, yet untitled: Subash Ghai's production on dance, Satish Kaushik's "supernatural emotional drama" and designer Manish Malhotra's film.
