Are you the one who never wants to miss the daily soaps, never wishes to let go on the junk food, spends a lot of time glued to the computer and on the whole, has a lot of sitting hours making you nothing but a couch potato?

Well, guess what? The sedentary lifestyle only adds to your weight, making you obese. A regular workout is to be included in your routine as an essential, if you want to sport that confident look. Be it for losing weight or getting rid of that ugly pain that bothers you, the right kind of exercise makes all the difference.

Is there an easy way out? Crash diet or a vigorous workout session might bring out a change, but with their share of negative effects on the body. Dedicating an hour for a regular workout is the key to a shapely body.

Dividing the one-hour time allocated for the purpose judiciously is essential. This is where an instructor can truly guide a person and help him or her achieve the goal.

Personal attention

An interior of a house, near Pinnamaneni hospitals, converted into a gym by Lakshmi, it has turned into a sought-after place this summer. A woman instructor, equipped with 10 years of experience as a gym trainer at Mumbai, offers personal attention to each one of her students. Starting with warm-ups to tone the body, the place offers equipment like treadmills, electronic cycles, twisters and steppers, besides practice sessions in floor exercises that can heal chronic pains and cut down flab. Achieving a thin waistline, slashing the excess fat in thighs or flaunting perfect contours is made possible here. "Kill the fat. Or else, it'll kill you," says Lakshmi. Though set up just a couple of months ago, the response is encouraging, thanks to the health-conscious denizens of Vijayawada, she says. "I went trekking at the Everest base camp, walked all the way to Mana Sarovar and Thapovan and indulged in extensive travelling at 40. I owe it to my fitness regimen," she says flashing a winning smile.

Exhaust on a treadmill

It's not exhausting to run on a treadmill, if you get used to it in about a week's time. Run for your health. Twister keeps body cramps away. Ribs and backbone turn flexible. Steepr is surely a cardio exercise. The more you step, the great you feel. Subcutaneous fat accumulated on the thighs melts like wax.

The homely ambience and the personal attention bestowed on people coming to the all-women gym is the most attractive feature, says Keerthi, a practicing doctor. Personal interest is what attracted her to the gym. "I feel absolutely fresh and am able to give myself more time," says Phani, a beautician. Radhika, a student of Nirmala High School, has been visiting the gym for the past five days and is determined to continue her fitness classes

Full of activity

Manju is a housewife and has chosen to join the gym since it is exclusive for women. The instructor is doing a good job, according to her. "I have been coming here for the past 20 days to reduce my thighs. I like the place and feel very active," gushes a bubbly Mounika, a student of NSM High School. Shanthi is a housewife in her early forties. Not willing to allow extra flab adding to her weight, she plans to be a regular visitor to the place. "I feel easy and active and am able to concentrate more on studies," says Sowjanya, an ICWA student. This is the first time she is going to a gym and feels good about the same. "I am thoroughly enjoying my classes and look forward to brighter days that are in store for me," says a confident Laitha, a housewife. It's just not something you ought to do for your physical appearance, but also for developing a healthy mind. The gym is open from 5.30 am to 12 noon in the morning session and 4.30 pm to 8.00 pm in the evenings. The timings have been fixed to cater to the needs of housewives and workingwomen, explains Lakshmi. "With 60 people enrolling their names so far, I am confident that the number would increase by leaps and bounds in the coming days," she chortles.
