Caring for children
Education is the birthright of every child. Yet, for every child who enjoys that right, there are a hundred others who are denied it, in India. The causes are many and economics often forms the basis of many of them. This is where the Children Foundation steps in to do its bit. The Children Foundation, set up by Lekshmy Rajeev in 2003, distributes scholarships to financially weak students. (Lekshmy is a poet who writes in English and Malayalam and contributes to newspapers and magazines.)
The Children Foundation identifies academically bright students who are economically backward and help them achieve their full potential. Selection is made at the secondary school level itself after an appropriate screening process. The foundation then undertakes the education of the child right up to his/her college level.
This year, the foundation is supporting 30 children some of whom are SSLC toppers. The foundation hopes to extend help to more children in the years to come. Donations are tax-exempted under Section 80 C. For details call 94440 24023 or visit www.childrenfoundation.net
