Introduction

If you love Sindhi food, Indu Chabria can help you with her delicious preparations

Would you have ever imagined that there is such a lot of hidden talent in this magnificent city of ours? (I say "ours" though I live in Mumbai, because I feel a sense of belonging with this city too. When I started my research, I never thought that so much of home-cooked good food would be accessible to us. And there lies the wonder of it all. Take a look at my find today — oil-free pickles and Sindhi curry to cheesecakes and chocolates (almond and plain). And making these at home is Indu Chabria, she cooks to her family's recipes and makes my favourite Sindhi curry. A curry that is chock-a-block with vegetables, flavours and nutrition. Ditto the leafy-green Sai bhaji. In fact, if you are a Sindhi food fan, then call her and find out what she has on the menu for you. You can choose from fish methi, chicken seekh and more. Indu also cooks Parsi dishes, which I haven't been able to taste. Do check out her lime and green chilly oil-free pickles. But it is Indu's lemon cheesecake (Rs. 400) that will be a sure winner with most of you. Baked in the traditional way, it brims with the goodness of home (unlike the gelatinous version that we get in shops). Indu also makes chocolates, but it is her Sindhi food and cheesecake that I am most excited about. And of course, the oil-free pickles. Indu Chhabria, 8/15, Desika Road, Alwarpet, ph: 24992891.
