Israeli film festival
The Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation is organising an Israeli Film Festival in collaboration with the Embassy of Israel, New Delhi and the FFSI (NR) at the South Indian Film Chamber Theatre, Anna Salai from May 1 to 3.
The festival opens on May 1 with the screening of "The Return From India" at 6.15 p.m. Menachem Golan directs the film of profound sensuality and intrigue, set in locations in Israel and India. The story involves forbidden love between an older woman and a younger man. "The Return... " will be followed at 7.45 p.m. by "Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi", a warm and witty family comedy. On May 2, 6.30 p.m. "Sacred", a film by Amos Gitai will be screened. Meir and Rivka have been married for ten years. They love each other passionately but have no children. This is a cause of worry for the community's rabbi and forms the crux of an interesting tale.
On May 3, 6.15 p.m. "The Barbeque People" by David Ofek and Yossi Madmoni will be screened. A Jewish immigrant family from Iraq gathers for a picnic in Ashdod. As the film unfolds, long forgotten secrets surface about a clandestine affair between lost lovers and a covered-up murder. Packed with intrigue and barbeque the fast paced film keeps you guessing till the last frame. It will be followed at 8 p.m. by short films from the Sam Speigel School of Cinema, Jerusalem.
