Theatre workshop for summer
STATE RAGE The workshop will focus on young adults
Theatre group Rafiki is out with a new offering for young people this summer. Stepping away from the usual workshop formats with rigid teacher-taught roles, Rafiki provides an opportunity for young adults to work with young children between the ages of nine and 13. In the first half of the workshop, beginning on May 5, young adults will be trained by facilitators for two hours in the morning through the week.
On May 14, participants will be joined by children aged between nine and 13, thus getting the opportunity to practise their newfound skills immediately. The intention of this workshop is "to facilitate, through the medium of theatre, interaction, thought exchange and mutual understanding between young adults and children". The focus is on "creating a space that will allow the freedom to explore and understand self-expression and communication." (Rafiki hopes to open up avenues to question and examine dominant attitudes and beliefs that affect our behaviour and interactions with others in a group) and acceptance (working together towards becoming more accepting of the various aspects of our own selves).
Till May 29, the young adults work with children, preparing them for a final performance to mark the culmination of the exercise. Called Kyunki Duniya Sabki, borrowed from a Safdar Hashmi poem, the workshop will be held at Nani Arena perpendicular to Cunningham Road. So if you are a young adult in your twenties and would like to work with children, call Deepak from Rafiki on 9341729728/ 9343763497 or write to warafiki@yahoo.com
