RED HOT Farhad and Farina sport the Glitter and Ati collection

NINETEEN-YEAR-old Sahil Gulati has a family business, advertising, that is rather hatke from what he has chosen for his career path.

He albeit carries the creativity into his designing profession. The third year NIFT Hyderabad student was one among the young Asian designers short-listed by the Confederation of Indian Apparel Exporters for his portfolio Glitter & Ati that he eventually presented on ramp in Mumbai December last.

And back home he unveiled the same at the Redd do last week.

"Rich look for the glitterati is what it stands for," he says about the line.

So, Glitter & Ati was red and black brocade and raw silk embellished sober, with motifs beyond popular paisleys. The design element running through the story line for skirts in varied lengths, tops and glitzy shirts in the collection read practical. Apart from the Glitter & Ati collection, Sahil chose the ramp to showcase his two other lines for the season.

"Panache features dressy shirts for men in Singapore's tassuti cotton in light colours."

Nips and tucks

"The shirts are in apple cut with varied cuff lengths. We have given a height to the collar," explains the designer.

The next line Beat the heat, "was inspired by fabrics. It's a fusion line in cotton and linen," he says.

Wearable? "The models have taken the clothes home," affirms Sahil.

The event was a home coming for Farhad and Farina, who took the ramp along with Disha, Tabir, Pramod, Ardhana and other models from the twin cities.

Matching the fashion fervour, Gopal Thakur, manager Redd, lined up spring-summerish tones in tall glasses.

There was Fruitoschka — a watermelon, apple and black pepper summery vodka based offering as also Antarctica — this one with blue Curacao, Malibu liquor and fresh lime.

Here's a toast to the promising designer who will shortly be retailing his lines at select boutiques here.
