Trekkers' paradise

Take a trip to Adi Kailash and experience the magic of the mountains

If heights give you a high, then this is for you. Experience the magic of the mountains by undertaking a trip to Mount Adi Kailash. It is situated between the Darma and Byans Valley in the Kumaon region of Uttaranchal. It is a close replica of the Kailash Mansarovar situated in China.

Owing to certain limitations, the Kailash Mansarovar yatra is accessible to a limited number of persons, the Adi Kailash yatra is a suitable alternative to many desirous of participating in the Kailash yatra and is a pilgrimage with a flavour of adventure.

Awe-inspiring

The trek to Adi Kailash or Chota Kailash at a height of 4,770 metres, around 14,000 ft., is similar to the Kailash Mansarovar trek. The route right up to the Tibetan/Chinese border is the same, just as arduous and awe-inspiring as rewarding in the final lap when one gets to view Mount Kailash.

Snow clad peaks

One starts from Dharchula at an altitude of 700 metres, walking along the gushing Kali river, passing by snow clad mountain peaks of the Annapoorna and the Om Parvat before reaching higher altitudes.

The path goes through steadily rising heights leading from Gala 2,440 metres, Budhi 2,740 metres, Kalapani 3,600 metres, Kuti 4,500 metres, Jolingkong from where you get a fantastic view of the Chota Kailash and Nabhidang 3,987 metres which is the last camp on the Indian territory for the Kailash Mansarovar yatra and the place where one can get a good view of the Om Parvat. Here the mountain shows up in the formation of Om in snow.

Small lake

At the foot of Mount Adi Kailash is a small lake called the Parvati Tal where the tranquil waters reflect the mount. Close by is the Parvati Mukut comprising a series of peaks that look like a crown.

The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, a unit of the Government of Uttaranchal, organises the treks starting from various base camps for 15 days and 21 days during June-September.

The cost varies from Rs. 10,500 to Rs. 14,500 depending on the duration of the treks. For details contact 25362300 or 28260072 or 98840 30124
