Lakshmi calls the shots in Hollywood
|
Mohan Babu's daughter Lakshmi Prasanna is raring to go with her film and TV projects
|
BEAUTY `N' BRAINS Lakshmi Prasanna.
She gives the impression of being a private person who handles celebrity status without putting on too many airs. Her dusky sensuousness has endeared her to many a heart. That, in a nutshell, is Lakshmi Prasanna. Beyond this image is a thorough professional with big dreams.
Her foray into television was not planned but she slotted in well into the guest role of an Indian mathematician in NBC's show on Primetime Las Vegas. With a Bachelors degree in Theatre and a stint in Beverley Hills Playhouse, Lakshmi is all set to turn producer for Hollywood flicks. She seems to have a liberal outlook because on-screen as well as off it, she has strayed from the routine to plunge into unknown terrain. Still, she is conservative at heart and more of a family person.
First steps
Exuding strength and confidence, she allows a glimpse of her persona hidden behind the curtain of stardom. "Working in the US was an enormous experience. I was a nobody when I went abroad. Back home, I was this shy, proper South Indian girl, a little confused and scared but then this creative side was always there. I saw this college play once and that inspired me to take the plunge. There is so much to do right now. I have directed short films, dabbled in theatre, fashion designing. I also help out mum with her boutique." Ask how her dad reacted when he heard her plans, she giggles and says, "When I came home this time, all excited to discuss my plans, all he wanted to know was what I had brought for him from the US. I was baffled but my family has always encouraged me. I was initially scared to tell dad for I was never groomed to be an actor. But he is a very understanding person and understands the dynamics of the profession."

Lakshmi kept her plans under wraps for long but finally decided to spill the beans. "I wanted to inspire people, especially women in India, and tell them that anything is possible. In order to wake up and live your dreams, you must focus on what you can personally effect to turn them into a reality. Just believe in yourself and hang out with positive and like-minded people."
As the conversation veers off the professional front on to matters of personal nature, you're tempted to ask about her vision of Mr. Right. "He should be kind, understanding and should love me unconditionally. There should be mutual respect in the relationship."
While the `Indian Princess in LA', as she is called by her crew, is making waves, Lakshmi has chalked her plans and is all set to launch a movie, The Single Thread, in Tirupati at the end of the year. So, all she has on mind now is this dream and a will to shape it into reality.
