Though offers are pouring in, Yana Gupta wants to be choosy about her roles

She is vivacious, sexy and presently one of the hottest item number girls in Bollywood. But Yana Gupta is all set to play the lead role soon in a forthcoming Hindi film for one of the big banners in the country. Understandably, with several of her contemporaries such as Lara Dutta, Biapasha Basu and Mallika Sherwat waiting in the wings for the big break, Yana does not want to reveal anything further on the offer.
"I wouldn't let the cat out of the bag so soon. You just watch for a few days and the details will be out," says Yana with a glint in her eye. "I do not want to reveal anything at this stage. All I can say is that it is a big production house and my co-actor would also be a leading star," she says.
There's now news of girls who once worked in dance bars, now closed by an order by the Maharashtra Government, seeking item number roles in films. Would that mean competition for the likes of Isha Koppikar and Yana? Highly unlikely, considering that the poor bar girls can't compete with Yana's oomph and glamour! In any case, Yana doesn't plan to completely give up on her item roles.
The 22-year-old Czech-born model who married an Indian painter, Satyakam Gupta, insists that despite the latest offer in the film, she would continue to do item numbers despite the big break. "A large number of producers have approached me for their films. However, I am quite selective about the dances and my role," she says.
Multilingual foray
Yana, who topped the popularity charts with her maiden number in Dum, has also done half-a-dozen sizzling dances in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. "I have done a dance in Venkatesh's starrer Gharshana, and the feedback I received was really very encouraging," she says.
But wouldn't doing item numbers affect her image as a serious actress? "Certainly not. I am passionate about my dance. I would always like to dance. But then, as I said, I am not in a hurry to accept every offer that comes my way," she says with confidence. The model-turned actress says that a very prominent business house has also approached her to be their brand ambassador. "Maybe the contract would be signed in another few weeks," she says.
Yana is very impressed with the people and the work atmosphere in the south. But her love seems to go beyond even that. The food here has Yana floored.
"I have got a strong liking for south Indian dishes. I really love having all those idlis, upma and masala dosas. Most of the preparations here are made with coconuts, perhaps that's one reason I like the food here," says the hazel-eyed model with a smile. Given that Yana has recently turned completely vegetarian and the south Indian platters are rich in vegetarian varieties, one can quite understand her newfound love for the south!
