Come summer and the skin gets damaged due to the harsh UV rays. This could cause premature ageing of the skin leading to dryness and formation of wrinkles. Some even get severely sun burnt during this season. Here are a few tips to beat the heat and look really cool this summer.

You could use a good sunscreen lotion with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) index of at least 20-30. The market offers sunscreen lotion for normal skin, a sunscreen soufflé for oily skin and sun blocks for sensitive skin types. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day as it hydrates your body and skin. Cold water is an excellent skin toner during summer. Add a few drops of rose water to plain water, keep it in the fridge and splash it on your face whenever you can. This helps to close pores and control sweating. Never use ice directly on the face, it can lead to broken capillaries or even ice burns. You can use ice water, but only by dipping cotton wool in it.

In summer, go easy on make-up, and if you must apply, remember to remove it thoroughly. At night, exfoliate the skin with a mild, deep cleansing scrub to get rid of the dead skin and unblock pores.

You can even make your own scrub by mixing oats, besan, and milk. Make a paste, apply on your face, let it dry and rinse off with cold water.

Those with dry skin can use face masks made of papaya, grapes, melons and plums. Carrot juice is excellent for a fruit mask as it contains vitamin A. But test your skin for allergies before applying the fruit mask. Apply a small quantity behind your ears, if there is no itching after two to three hours then you can go ahead with the fruit face mask.
