Lord of the strings

Get ready to catch Joe Satriani live in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore

Can't believe it? Yes, guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani, popularly known as `Satch', will perform in Mumbai (MMRDA Grounds) on May 13, Kolkata (Rabindar Sarovar) on May 15 and Bangalore (Palace Grounds) on May 17.

This is Satriani's first visit to India and he is excited about it. He says, "India is a country of music lovers and I have always wanted to play here."

Satriani is coming here just after the release of his latest album "Is there love in space", which is already creating ripples all over the world. One of the most technically accomplished, Satriani is the man who taught Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Slash (Guns `N' Roses), Steve Vai, Larry LaLonde (Primus), David Bryson (Counting Crows) and jazz-fusion player Charlie Hunter.

Born in 1956 in Westbury, New York, and inspired by guitar legend Jimmy Hendrix, Satriani picked up the guitar at the age of 14, though he was initially more interested in the drums. His first full-length solo album, "Not of this earth", became an instant hit with the rock guitar community. Some of his other hits include "Surfing with the alien", "Flying in a blue dream", "One big rush", "The extremist" and "Engines of creation".
