BEAT STREET

Make way for country hits, club edits and aggro metal in the week ahead

Finest Country Songs

Various/EMI

In the new age music scene of bubblegum pop, nu metal and rest of the genres, country buffs sure do miss Don Williams' baritone rendition Some broken hearts never mend, Kenny Rogers' evergreen Ruby don't take your love to town and the United Artists Bille Jo Spears' romantic up tempo Blanket on the ground. So, here is a compilation that takes you back to the nostalgic 60s and 70s country era, featuring songs from the late Eddie Rabbit, Anne Murray, Tanya Tucker and more. Just right for the sunshine days.

Mezmerize

System of A Down/

Sony & BMG

The new alternative metal offering that hits the music store in town on May 17 sounds extremely different when compared to SOAD's earlier Toxicity and self-titled album, say early reviews overseas.

Guitarist Daron Malakian does a lot more singing for the album in contrast to lead singer Serj Tankian. And instead of aggro metal, the band lines up slow paced, melodic heavy, ballad style songs this time. Undoubtedly for a broader audience.

Bacardi Blast... Calling All Creatures Of The Night-3

Various/EMI

This is for the have-feet-will-dance community. Jamelia, Chemical Brothers, David Guetta, Daft Punk as well as radio edits can be found on the twin CD contemporary club hits compilation, the third edition in the hugely popular Bacardi Blast series. Most of the numbers listed will sound familiar with the regulars at the party circuit in the twin cities. The album hits the music store on May 20. Sure handy for those house parties.
