Coming from a Brahmin family and being the only daughter, it was not easy to secure my dad's nod for modeling Jaya

Married or single, career is precious for girls in this modern age. They know how to divide their time between work and leisure. If working hard and finishing the job in hand is important, freaking out by going out with friends to the weirdest places, partying at night and going to pubs is a way of life for them. The rest of the time is amply 'utilised' by hanging out, something that is otherwise banned by some parents.'
Beauty with brains' is the buzz around and those gifted with stunning looks and spectacular boldness to match with, seem to be in no mood to miss the bus. High-flying career options offering the proverbial moon is the single-point agenda a major chunk of these self-motivated go-getters are working on. Modelling seems to be just more than fitting the bills. Girls taking to modelling as a profession is no longer a rarity. In fact, more and more girls are beginning to do so. Some for work satisfaction and others just for pleasure, without raising eyebrows.
Razzle dazzle
"It is not right to underestimate the beauty of the slender waist, the brilliantly outlined eyes, well-defined lips and cheerful cheeks. The struggle does not end after achieving that enviable statistics of 36-24-36.There is much more to modelling than what meets the eye," insist Jaya Badula and Rachel, students who took the plunge into the dazzling world of glitz and glamour when they realized it was difficult to resist the temptation any longer." Coming from a Brahmin family and being the only daughter, it was not easy to secure my dad's nod for modelling. He is very possessive about me and letting me choose this line was the last thing on his mind," says the20-year-old Jaya, who is a pursuing medicine. She spent most part of her childhood and early teens in Sweden before settling in the City of Pearls, Hyderabad.
Lured by the money and fame the profession offers, Rachel, yet another Hyderabadi girl, chose to be part of it. All of 21 and doing her MCA first year, life for the leggy lass is fun and excitement. Full of zest and eager to touch new horizons, Rachel's ultimate dream is to settle as a homemaker in United States of A and rear her children with utmost care and affection.
Better prospect
Though the girls realize that they have chosen the less-trodden path, they are happy that the modelling scene is getting better in Hyderabad. "At some places, the ground is sad as not many people show up for ramp walks. They probably tend to think that we models are around for skin-show. We have crossed several hurdles to reach this stage and we expect people to respect our talent," they echo in unison. But for 27-year-old Bobby, an airhostess operating the Indian Airlines flights, modelling is a motivating factor.
"It's a pill that keeps me on a high. Life has always been kind to me by gifting me with all the good things in the world. There is no way you can be cowed down by sadness and grief. It all depends on how you handle your life and conduct yourself in difficult situations," she challenges. A gold medallist in MA Sociology and second in Osmania University, Bobby loves to have her fingers in several pies and excels in all of them. A Maharashtrian settled in Hyderabad, she always wanted to push off to US and settle there. But destiny had a brighter future in store for her. Not satisfied by merely anchoring programmes like Khubsoorat for Gemini TV, she went on to walk the ramp with big names in Mumbai like Madhu Sapre, AnupamaVarma, Pooja Batra, Milind Soman and Suman Ranganathan before landing herself a lead role in a Telugu film. But she ended the deal after the first day's shoot as the clothes offered to her were 'too skimpy'.
Patience pays
Bobby handles her two different roles with remarkable ease. "Modelling is easy. You don't have to look sideways after your job is over. But being an airhostess means showing enormous patience with the passengers on the flight. Sometimes, we come across cranky characters but are expected to put-up with their tantrums with a constant smile on our faces," she says.
Though basically a home bird, she likes to venture on long drives, listening to music and attending private parties. "I am a very God-fearing person. Regardless of the progress we make, we Indians are orthodox deep down our hearts. This trait helps us stand out in the crowd," she says philosophically. Unfazed by the challenges of life, the young lady remarks, "It is for us to make our lives joyous. I have made a promise to myself that I will never allow sadness to creep into my life," she says with dexterity.
