For a safe pregnancy

A few remedies to prevent miscarriage

FAMILY WAY Sail through your confinement

Amongst the various changes in a woman's life, she would always cherish her pregnancy and the multifarious changes she experiences during that period. Some events can be a cause for concern during this phase. One of them is bleeding from vagina that could occur during any of the three trimesters of pregnancy.

During the time of implantation of the fertilized ovum into the uterine layer there could be spotting and is not associated with any other symptoms. Cramping pain in the abdomen, lower limbs, chills, feverishness when associated with spotting could be due to improper implantation in the fallopian tube and so on termed as ectopic pregnancy, which calls for attention. If the implantation is improper, the ovum cannot derive nutrition and is unable to survive leading to expulsion during which there is passing of tissues along with bleeding usually termed as miscarriage.

As the body prepares for pregnancy the cervix or the opening of the birth canal tends to get swollen and inflamed sometimes resulting in spotting that is asymptomatic and not a cause for concern.

The foetus, as it grows, is supplied nutrition through the placenta that could be at the lower end of the uterus and is prone to cause some bleeding which is generally bright red but again without any pain. A dull backache, abdominal and pressure in the pelvis with spotting during the last three months of pregnancy is something that needs attention as it could lead to premature labour. The foetus can be well visualised through an ultrasound scan with which a proper diagnosis is made apart from examination by a gynaecologist. During any of the conditions, bed rest is primary. If there is a significant blood loss, either intravenous infusion or fluids or blood is considered.

Homoeopathic medicine has good remedies to prevent miscarriage and habitual abortion. If there is a problem with implantation and threatened abortion is a feature, Apis mel and Aletris farinosa are helpful. If the muscle tone of the uterus is not congenial Caulophyllum and Actea racemosa are helpful in prevention. Sabina, Secale cor and Sepia are helpful in anaemic women while Plumbum met is an ideal remedy to ward off habitual abortion.
