STAR PAIR Actors Bhavana and Prithviraj shooting for the film, The Police'
Amidst an impressive group of prodding scribes, TV cameras and flashes, Prithviraj makes his entry through the verandah of the District and Sessions Court, with a lawyer in tow. He is sporting an unshaven face and walks away ignoring the queries from the hacks. "Okay, cut it," yells the director, quite pleased with the shot. The shooting of V.K.Prakash's `The Police' is underway in the Maharajas' College campus in Kochi. A part of the college is being picturised as the court in the movie.
Minutes later, Prithviraj joins his brother Indrajit, the other hero of the film, who is taking a close note of the proceedings, glued on to a monitor, kept at some distance. "We are not playing brothers in the film," says Indrajit, a software engineer turned actor. He thinks that the two differ much in their mannerisms, off screen. "Prithvi resembles our father, the late Sukumaran, while I have inherited our mother, Mallika's looks. And Prithvi tends to be more serious," analyses Indrajit.
"The heroes, Anand Jacob and Shekhar Varma, played by Indrajit and Prithviraj respectively, are Assistant Commissioners in the Narcotic Cell in Kochi. The two are publicity savvy and jealous about each other's successes. Soon their actions get them into trouble and how it happens is the suspense part of the film," says V.K.Prakash, a well-known ad film maker whose profile includes a variety of films like `Punaradhivasam', `Freaky Chakra' and `Mullavalliyum Thenmavum'.
"Anand is the scion of a rich family and has joined the profession to enjoy the thrill of adventure. Meanwhile, Shekhar looks unkempt, is outspoken and flamboyant. The character needs to create an aura on screen through body language and dialogues," explains Prithviraj about the nature of the heroes.
Bhavana and Chaya Singh are the `leading ladies' in the film. "I am Indrajit's sister in `The Police.' On a personal front, as I have a brother whom I love so much, this role is really special," smiles Chaya, who is known as the `Manmadha Rasa... ' girl, after the popular dance number that she did with Dhanush in `Thiruda Thirudi'.
Bhavana has loads of films in hand. "I am really excited about Jayaraj's `Daivanamathil', I have also completed `Winter' with Jayaram, in which I play his wife and mother of two kids. ," says Bhavana.
A day later, the shooting shifts to the Silver Sand Island near Vyttila. The scene has comedians Kalabhavan Shajon and Machaan Varghese besides Prithviraj and Bhavana. The hero's jeep stops right in front of the auto rickshaw in which the other three are travelling. The mood is turning into a "romantic" one. A song will follow the scene later.
"We are aiming at giving the audience a wholesome entertainer with this film," says Prakash, while his crew gets ready for the next shot.
The normally cool Manikandan, who has worked for such films like `Main Hoon Na' and `Anniyan', fumes at one of his assistants for messing up the lenses. Once it is sorted out, its perfect camaraderie on the sets.
`The Police' is being produced under the banner of Trends ad film makers. The script has been written by P.Balachandran and Shyam Krishna Saran, stunts are by Vikram Dharma, the still photographer is Soorya Peter and the production manager is Anil Mathew. The lyrics by Joshy Tharakan and Anoop have been set to music by Ouseppachan.
