On women, by women


Fresh from a two-week run in London, Womanly Voices, a creation of Lillete Dubey and The Primetime Theatre Co, will come to Hyderabad. The play has completed over 50 shows in India and abroad and is a package of three short stories, all penned by women authors - Shishu by the acclaimed Mahashweta Devi, The Teacher's Story by Gita Mehta, (featured amongst Rushdie's Best Indian short stories of the last 50 years) and Utran by Wajeeda Tabassum (from which the movie Kamasutra was inspired).

The ensemble consists of six actors - Neha Dubey (Monsoon Wedding), Joy Sengupta (Hazaar Chaurasi ki Maa), Zafar Karachiwalla (Chai Pani, Mansarovar), Deepika Amin, Suchitra Pillai (Dil Chahta Hai, Page 3), and Sephra Abraham, a 10-year-old child. The play is directed by Lilette Dubey. The performance begins at 7.45 p.m. on May 28 at the Grand Ballroom, Taj Krishna. .Lilette Dubey can be contacted on 022-22828894/56058353 between 3 p.m.-6.30 pm, weekdays.
