I, me and my message

MSN's new Messenger version throws in all the goodies of the instant communication scene

FEATURES GALORE: MSN Messenger offers variety fare

It's all about oneself on the Instant Messaging (IM) scene. What began as a tool to chat online through text, has today become a comprehensive `masala' of features, ranging from Webcam conferencing to voice chat (the un-official equivalent to Internet telephony) and now, free blog space. Everything that makes Me the most important person in the world!

The new version of MSN Messenger (version 7.0), which can be downloaded free of cost from http://messenger.msn.com takes up about 65 MB of hard disk space, 50 MB for the basic software and an additional 15 for the add-on features. Users familiar with earlier versions of MSN Messenger would not feel a major change in the features and design, which include links to your Hotmail mailbox, cricket, dating and movie news links in addition to a new link, which takes you to a matrimonial site. Chat with your pal, check the mail he/she sends you and discuss yesterday's match. If you have contrasting views on the match, click on the dating tab and find a new pal. So far so good. With the latest version, you can take it a step further and decide to get married to him/her with the help of the matrimony link!

On a more serious note, MSN Messenger 7.0 scores above other software in its league with its new addition, which allows users to create their own individual `blog' spaces and enables them to send mails and messages that are instantly posted on the `blog' site.

For starters, Blog is the space given to you on a website, where you `post' anything you feel about anything. It could be your opinion on why you don't like the latest track of Linkin Park, or an essay on "How Sania Mirza should concentrate more on her game". It is basically space on the Internet that belongs to You. It is very much like a private web-page, but here the space is not hampered by ads and pop-ups. The MSNSpaces feature in MSN Messenger allows you to instantly register free with a unique URL, which takes you to an organised page which allows you to post opinions (or blogs), create a profile, upload photos and files.

In short, you can have your messenger — and blog it too.
