Bonding with Producer No.1

Vashu Bhagnani's love affair with films continues with "Silsiilay", releasing shortly

You don't associate serious films with Vashu Bhagnani, especially when you remember his Biwi No. 1 and Out of Control.

So in producer-director Khalid Mohamed's latest offering Silsiilay too, he assures us he will uphold his reputation.

The film weaves the lives, struggles and desires of three contemporary women aged 20, 30 and 40, played by Riya Sen, Bhumika Chawla and Tabu respectively.

In New Delhi for the promotion of the film, Bhagnani says, "I had another subject in the mind when Khalid came to me with this. I asked him if he had trust in me, for I have not made this kind of a film earlier. But he specified a small budget, which I couldn't adhere to, as I am not used to smaller canvases. We went over-budget," recalls Bhagnani.

`Mix-n-match'

And he doesn't fall short of declaring the audiences will be able to make out his penchant for extravaganza in songs. "We shot in Mandwa (two kilometres from Mumbai) and Dubai to bring soul into the songs, especially in Bhumika's role as she plays an actress in the film." But he emphasises that he didn't interfere in making of the film.

"It is completely Khalid's film and my songs. It's a mix-n-match affair. I didn't interfere in his work and he didn't in mine."

Next in his kitty is Shaadi No 1, the story of three happily married couples whose life turns upside down when financial constraints take their toll and the husbands go astray. "The three go for contract love and then deceive the daughters of rich fathers, as per the contract with their fathers, in lieu of money," he recounts.

"It is no below-the-belt kind of comedy but a family entertainer," says Bhagnani, who expects the film to be released in November this year.
