Mira Nair is back in India. This time for the Indian leg shoot of the movie Namesake, based on Jhumpa Lahiri's eponymous novel. The shooting commences on May in Kolkata.

The film is co-produced by UTV Motion Pictures, Fox Searchlight and Entertainment Farm. The film, scripted by Sooni Taraporewala, stars the National Award winners Tabu and Irrfan Khan.

"It's nice to be back in India to shoot for my film," said Ms. Nair who has already completed 80 per cent of the film in New York. "The Namesake," she says, encompasses in a deep humane way the tale of millions of us who have left one home for another, who have known what it means to combine the old ways with the new world, who have left the shadow of our parents to find ourselves for the first time."
