Youth appeal

If T. Rajendar's success formula in the 1980s was musical love stories replete with sentiment and punchy dialogue, his son Silambarasan has worked out a different one. Simbu proved his mettle in "Manmathan" which had plenty of glamour and peppy numbers. His films are targeted at the youth who have grown up watching MTV and FTV. Now Simbu, after completing an all-out action thriller "Thottijaya" has turned director with "Vallavan", produced by P. L. Thenappan. "Vallavan" is a romantic entertainer, in which Simbu plays a Standard 12 student with a roving eye that gets him entangled with three glamorous women — Nayantara, Sandhya and Reema Sen. The tech-savvy actor had the famous Bollywood photographer Daboo Ratnani to do a photo-shoot for the film. Distributors have already snapped up the film for a record price.
