Isha Gramotsavam showcases rural sports and tradition
|
Isha Gramotsavam, the celebration of rural sports and art forms, is back.
Held under the aegis of the Action for Rural Rejuvenation, it is going to be two days of fun-filled cultural extravaganza on June 11 and 12 at the VOC Park grounds.
State Governor Surjit Singh Barnala will inaugurate this fest.
The celebrations begin with rural Olympics on June 10 with a rekla race.
People from 900 villages in five districts will converge in Coimbatore and engage in exiting sporting contests, which include volleyball, throw ball for women, track events, kabadi, silambaattam and traditional village games.
The rich tradition of performing arts in rural Tamil Nadu will be showcased in a variety of cultural events.
The evening will be dedicated to cultural programmes, including performances of oyilaatam and silambaatam.
Popular folk artistes Vijayalakshmi and Navaneedakrishnan and troupe will perform amid a display of fireworks.
A village food festival has been planned in the evening to bring to the city the culinary art of villages.
The stalls will be manned by families from Salem, Gobi, Karaikudi and Coimbatore.
The celebrations will culminate in a satsang with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.
Actor Vijay will distribute prizes to the winners.
