The recent Caferati read meet had young litterateurs presenting their recent works
|
A verdant patch with rocks adjoining Durgam Cheruvu, mana backwaters, served as an ideal setting for the group of young litterateurs who gathered with their works last weekend. As each of them read out their prose and poetry in the stipulated eight minutes, the rest of the audience listened very keenly only to come back with constructive criticism.
With his Now... What Can We Learn From a Horse? Rajiv Fernando, faculty associate at ICFAI Centre for Management Research presented a case study on Gary Ross's Seabiscuit: lessons films impart in people management and entrepreneurship zeal, tracing back to the Pimlico race track, Baltimore, November 1, 1938.
While Akshat Kumar, a software engineer came up with his short story A Spark, and many others with their poems. This was the Caferati Hyderabad Chapter's monthly read meet. About the same time yet another similar session was underway in Chennai.
What started as Bombay Writers Café by a group of published authors and professionals in Mumbai, Caferati today is a collective blog with members worldwide. A unique project Stories at the Coffee Table was started last year calling for short stories from members for the first book that received a whopping response.
Read meets are an enduring feature with Caferati chapters across the country with a few organising weekly read meets. Owing to its youthful and informal gathering, the meets are catching up with literature buffs, with quite a few who have started to pen down verse after attending a few sessions.
"We have members who work for BPO, IT industry, communication and publishing houses. Caferati gives Indian writers in English a platform to present their work and get feedback as also attracts publisher's attention," observes Ansh Dhar, moderator for the session. "You tend to learn more about haikus, limericks and English writing after coming to the meets," she adds.
As they say a lot can happen over a cuppa coffee. Interested? Log in to www.caferati.com or http://caferati.blogspot.com/ for more.
