Renuga visualises a glorious Tamil Nadu by 2010

It was `India Vision 2020' by APJ Abdul Kalam that ignited the spark in a Class X student of Vimal Jothi Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Saravanampatti.

R. Renuga is now the author of three books — `Munnetra Tamizhathai Kaanbom', `Musings of a Student' and a `General Knowledge Guide'.

"The President of India is my inspiration. When a busy person like him could allocate time and pen his thoughts, I felt that we have so much free time which can be utilised constructively," she says.

Thus was born the idea to write her first book — on a developed Tamil Nadu in 2010. In her vision, a glorious Tamil Nadu will have better infrastructure, discipline among people, a clean and green environment, communal harmony and cleanliness. "If it's a hospital, it should have all facilities and patients should be taken care of well. In a factory, the needs of workers should be fulfilled and they should be happy," she adds.

There is a separate chapter dedicated to how government departments should function in a developed State.

She has also written on the public distribution system. If everyone performs his duty in a proper manner, the country can achieve development in all spheres well before 2020, says Renuga in her work.

She dedicates an hour every day to her writing. "I started with writing short paragraphs and later developed them into essays. My parents, teachers and friends were there to help me out in organising everything," she explains.

How does she gather information? "Reading. I read newspapers, magazines, general knowledge books and the Malayala Manorama Yearbook, which helps me update my knowledge." Renuga also draws inspiration from the life history of leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi and Bharatiyar.

Her second book, `Musings of a Student', deals with topics such as the sound of silence, relationships, God, religion, violence, justice, ecology and positive thinking. "It is a perception of society through a student's eye," she adds.

Renuga has also come out with a book on General Knowledge in Tamil. This book covers everyone from Abraham Lincoln to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar to subjects like health and nature with self-explanatory headlines.

The United Writers' Association, Chennai, has conferred Renuga with the `Achievements Award' for her feat.

She is also a painter and has held many exhibitions, the latest one being on the tsunami. She is interested in a whole lot of things ... karate, athletics, philately and numismatics. But her ambition is to become a writer.
