On an upswing

Saloni is set to woo the audience with native charm in her next flick

MODEL MATTERS Her modelling stint was a great help

Saloni, who comes from modelling background, has already acted in a couple of Hindi films before she made her Telugu debut with Dhana 51. Now, she has geared up for her new role in Oka Voorilo... opposite Tarun, directed by Ramesh Varma. Saloni, who believes an actor's job is to make every character convincing, says, "In Oka Voorilo, I play a completely different person - a village beauty. My character is nothing like what I had done in Dhana 51. It is actually a dream role. I'm very happy the way the film has shaped up and must say it exceeded my expectations. In most of the scenes you will see me cycling and it was so difficult doing it in a lehenga-voni. But I thoroughly enjoyed wearing those costumes. In Mumbai I have so many Malayalee friends wearing that dress and how I yearned to get into them ."

A Psychology graduate, Saloni always wanted to be an actress. She gushes, "This urge to see myself on the big screen was deep in me since I was a child. I remember imitating everyone in front of the mirror. I knew it was difficult to make it if one is not from a film background. Added to that I am very bad at public relations and an introvert. So the other option was to become an airhostess. Thankfully my effort paid off. Those workshops, portfolios, stint of modelling all helped me. I look forward to a new beginning everyday and love to be on the sets. I love giving those variations either for a still or a moving camera. I'm happy things went on smoothly for me and I'm here today savouring every bit and enjoying life to the hilt."

Saloni is extremely strong-willed and wants to be on the top. She has the right attitude, is camera-friendly and works very hard. It is just a matter of time before she joins the big league of stars in Telugu cinema.

Aware that her career graph is on an upswing, Saloni feels it would be a challenge to "sustain the momentum".

The Sindhi actress says, "I'm scared. To sustain all this is tough. I work hard and leave the rest to luck. My performance in Dhana 51 was appreciated though the film didn't do well. People had a lot of expectations from Sumanth and the director because of their earlier hit Satyam, so it didn't work. Right now working for Oka Voorilo is a different experience. Tarun and me have shared a rapport right from the beginning. When I fainted during the shoot, he was so nice to me and took good care."

"The director knows exactly which buttons to push in my histrionic armoury. His ideas and his technique are quite contemporary. Another challenge for all of us," signs off Saloni.
