Famous five are here
In this rush of desi soaps, Star World has been a window for Indian viewers willing to sniff a bit of happening American television serials. Friends, Santa Barbara, Kumars at No. 42, Bold and Beautiful, Baywatch... the list grows longer by the year. Once they manage to attract American audiences, they take just a little time to hop on to Indian airtime.
Yet another name in this segment is the popular tele-soap on Uncle Sam's land, Desperate Housewives. It is slated for Indian viewers from July 1, Friday at 10 p.m. onwards on Star World.
A tale of five housewives, their separate tales, their circumstances, their lives that are so different from what it looks to others, it is a black comedy, a super hit one-hour tube offering on ABC. The serial is just about to get over with its first season.
The dish-out for the debut season will now be put on Star World for Indian viewers. The success of the serial in America is such that it won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Teri Hatcher, its prime protagonist, too has picked an award.
Star World Content Vice President Ravi Menon is hopeful it would do a successful run here too. "Usually, these famous serials never go unnoticed among Indian viewers, so we have reason to believe that even this one will tread the same path," he says.
