Jewellery from Jaipur

Showcasing some fine craftsmanship

GOLD AND GEMS On display at the Taj

It's the harmony of style, design and craftsmanship that strikes you as you enter the Willingdon Hall of Hotel Taj Coromandel on Nungambakkam High Road. Surana Jewellers of Jaipur is holding an exhibition-cum-sale of gold enamelled kundan and jadau jewellery. An amalgamation of regal and recent — that's the essence of the pieces on display. One can say the internationally popular Surana Jewellers is as old as the Pink City itself. For, it was at the instance of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh I, founder of Jaipur and a connoisseur of art and craft, that the jewellers settled in Jaipur 250 years ago to promote the kundan art. And they have successfully kept this ancient Mughal art alive to this day. The vast collection of handmade gold, kundan enamelled jewellery embedded with diamonds and coloured gem stones speaks volumes for the generations of experience and craftsmanship of the artisans. The exhibition is on till today, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
