Everyman's Elephant God

The most democratic of deities permits innovations of all sorts

Ganesha takes many forms and humans give him innovative appearances during the festive season. This year the Netaji Nagarikara Jagriti Vedike will install a Matsya Ganapati, where the lower half of Ganesha is shaped like a fish. This enthusiastic group has been installing Ganeshas on Vinayaka Chaturthi for the last seven years in Nandini Layout.

The three-day festive fervour begins on September 7 with a Gana Homa and winds up on September 9 after a procession amidst the bursting of firecrackers. The idol will be installed at Netaji Circle, J.C.Nagar, Nandini Layout.

On the occasion, the organisation also plans to distribute clothes to students and residents of an old age home and distribute free books to school children.
