Truffaut retrospective
Cinema buffs in the city can look forward to September 10 and 11 when the Alliance Francaise is organising a Francois Truffaut retrospective at Sathyam Cinemas. The screening commences at 9.30 a.m. and all films will have English subtitles. The programme "Part 1: The Adventures of Antoine Doisnel" features four films, two to be screened on September 10 and the other two on September 11.
"Les 400 Coups (The 400 Blows) will be screened on September 10 morning. Antoine Doisnel is a 14-year-old Parisian neglected by parents. He skips school to go to the movies. He discovers his mother has a lover. Antoine steals a typewriter, which leads to his suspension from school. The second film "Baisers Voles" (Stolen Kisses) is all about Paris, women's shoes, detectives, scheming, flirting and stolen kisses.
On September 11, "Domicile Conjugal" (Bed and Board) will be screened. Doisnel is now 26 and married to Christine, a violin teacher. They are going to have a baby. In a new job, Doisnel meets Kyoto, a Japanese woman, and falls in love with her. Christine discovers this and Antoine leaves the house. This will be followed by "L'Amour en Fuite (Love on the Run) in which the hero (Doisnel) is over 30 years old. He divorces Christine. He is a proofreader and is in love with Sabine, a record seller...
