DRIVING FORCE Lalitha Ubayaker, the person behind the festival

The Devnandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav commences on September 10 this year. The festival, in its 19th consecutive year and organised by Lalitha Ubayaker in the memory of Devanandan Ubhayaker, features young talent in music. This year the utsav coincides with the silver jubilee celebrations of The Academy of Music (Chowdiah Memorial Hall). The utsav will be held in three sessions — 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the inaugural day, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on September 11.

This year, it features vocal recitals by Sangeetha Bandyopadya (Kolkata), Rajesh Paranjape (Mumbai), and Atma Venkatesh (Bangalore). There will also be a flute recital by Akash Kumar, an eight-year-old prodigy.

This apart, one can also look forward to two jugalbandhis — Manoj Saraf and Sulba Chourasia Saraf and Rafique and Shafique Khan.

The venue for the fest is Chowdiah Memorail Hall. For details call 22258091.
