For a glowing skin all through the year

Dr Amee Daxini shares the secret for a healthy skin this season

Did you know that skin treatments are more popular with men in town? It's not just models who are in the business of looking good but also businessmen here who are taking to Botulinium shots to iron out those wrinkles. And you thought Hyderabad was in stone ages. But compared to Mumbai and Delhi the awareness is far less observes Dr. Amee Daxini, head, south Kaya Skin Clinics who has Nausheen Ali Sardar (Kkusum), Archana Puran Singh and Shabana Azmi on her high profile client list, during her recent visit to town. "The age for taking botox has come down to 20-23 years. You have air hostesses and models getting into the treatment early as also housewives," she observes. But particular to the twin cities as also the south, was the `fairness' issue, she says. "Every second person here is using some fairness creams without knowing what active ingredients it contains. You are what you are born with. You cannot be lighter than your genes. You can only prevent further pigmentation," she says, recommending a daily cleansing routine along with protecting from suntan.

"Most people think that cloudy days in rainy season prevent UV rays reaching the ground which is not true. You need a sunscreen of SPF 30 in south Indian climatic condition that you need to apply every 3-4 hours and half an hour before you step out. People stop taking care of their skin during this season. Pimples are abundant this part of the year. A good cleanser will solve 20 per cent of the problem. Soaps make skin dry and stimulate more oil secretion. Stick to face wash that will maintain pH of the skin," she suggests.

On the common trend of buying skin care products that most often are influenced by what friends use and not exactly match ones skin tone, "skin tone changes with age and season. Wash your face with a face wash. Pat dry. Check your skin after half and hour— if it is oily and shiny or dry all over or a combination with an oily forehead, nose and chin, you have oily, dry and combination skin respectively. Choose products likewise," suggests Dr Daxini.

So, time to chuck those bottles and creams that don't gel with your skin? Obviously.
