At Hotel Gowri Krishna is an all-satisfying experience

If you are a lover of traditional Indian cuisine and at the same time don't mind digging into a variety of tiffin items and slurping up fruit juices, then simply troop into Hotel Gowri Krishna, a pure vegetarian restaurant on Bypass road, for fun and satisfaction.

Now all hotels claim to offer a mind-boggling variety of items other than simple idlis and dosas and the ever-willing polite staff is at your call to take your orders and suggestions. So what distinguishes Gowri Krishna from the rest?

Mixed clientele

"Since our restaurant is on the bypass road, we get a mixed clientele. Though it appears that most of our customers are travelling public, but surprisingly our strength is in our regular customers, who are residents of adjacent areas. We have established a place where one gets all they want, right from fresh fruits to imported cookies. And the idea has clicked well," says a beaming M. Hari Hara Sudhan, the administration in charge.

Owners of Gowri Krishna have been into the business for more than two decades and hence are an experienced lot.

They have a branch, Hotel Gowri, on the thoroughfares of Arasaradi Main Road, which caters to the taste buds of conventional customers.

Buoyed by the success of Hotel Gowri, the proprietors launched Gowri Krishna in 2001 to improve their customer base.

"My father, V. Muthu Krishnan, never interferes in my work. He has given me a free hand in running the restaurant affairs. Hence, I was able to implement new ideas, and it has gone down supremely well. When a family walks into a restaurant, each member has a different desire. Somebody wants a South Indian dish or tandoori or Chinese, while some will settle for fresh fruit juice, children will be content with light snacks and cookies. We have tried to bring in everything under one roof, thus," says Mr.Hari.

While traditional Indian thali meals and other south Indian dishes move fast, the restaurant serves Chinese and tandoori varieties after 1 p.m.

"We successfully broke the myth that people prefer only meals for lunch. Even the tiffin section, which serves Chinese items is equally busy during these hours," he says.

The restaurant offers some interesting combination of juices and shakes and has appropriately dubbed it "cocktail". "Most of customers prefer milk shakes during evening hours.

During festivals, we prepare a special menu suiting the occasion. For instance, during Onam, we serve `Adai Prathaman'; during Chithirai, we offer `puttu'; for Vinayagar Chathurthi, we sell `vilampazham', guava and `beri fruits'," shares Mr. Hari.

To cash in on its success, the administration started a roof garden restaurant two years ago. This section functions from 6.30 p.m. to 11.30 p.m., while the regular section from dawn to midnight.

"Our watchword is quality in what ever we do. Quality in taste and service is our prime objective. I personally go to purchase food grains, groceries and fruits," asserts Mr.Hari.

Probably, it is this dedicated service and the commitment to innovate keeps him and his team successfully going.
