Sharing the Onasadya is an important element of Onam celebrations. Households across Kerala are busy gearing up to welcome King Mahabali. Also making elaborate arrangements are city hotels who are vying with each other to provide guests an onasadya.

Sadyas galore

At Hotel South Park you can savour as many as 33 varieties, including pickles. Apart from the must haves in a sadya such as avial and pulisheri, the buffet lunch on September 13, 14 and 15, will have desserts such as `steamed banana in jaggery,' pradhaman and payasam with boli. Priced at Rs.260 (inclusive of taxes), you can also choose ice cream as dessert. The hotel is planning to add two non-vegetarian dishes, a fish and chicken dish, to the menu.

Muthoot Plaza is planning the traditional sadya, but with a difference. This buffet, priced at Rs.300, can be enjoyed from a thali with separate `katoris' (bowl) to hold the curries of the sadya. Five varieties of payasams, including pal payasam and ada payasam await you at Tiffany. The Residency Tower too is planning a buffet, it will cost you Rs. 195, exclusive of taxes. The buffet will have the traditional onasadya delicacies plus three non-vegetarian preparations. Hotel Indrapuri at Bakery Junction would have onasadya for 11 days. The hotel is planning a payasam mela with five kinds of payasams on September 14, 15 and 16 .

Drive n Dine

For those who wish to take a drive and enjoy a refreshing onasadya by the seaside at Kovalam, the feast being planned by Le Meridien and Taj Green Cove Resort might be appealing. A "lavish buffet" lies in store at Le Meridien.

Taj Green Cove is planning to provide guests with a truly traditional culinary experience at its restaurant `Curries' on September 14, 15 and 16. At Rs. 400, exclusive of taxes, guests can enjoy a traditional meal on a plantain leaf. Even the dιcor will have a feel of Kerala, complete with waiters turned out in Malayali attire.
