PERSONALITY Soha Ali Khan

Soha Ali Khan did gather some words of praise for her debut role in Dil Maange More as the love interest of actor Shahid Kapoor. In the film, she she leaves him to concentrate on her career for a while, portraying the character of a girl who makes her choices in life. Now in her next film releasing this Friday, Hriday Shetty's Pyaar Mein Twist, Soha sort of repeats that resolute part of the earlier role-playing, only to come around though.

She plays Rhea, Dimple Kapadia's daughter in the film.

In Soha's words, "I play a selfish girl who doesn't understand the pain of her mother being a single parent. It is about my reaction to her decision to get remarried and how I grow with that decision."

The right choice

The film is highlighted as a Dimple-Rishi comeback vehicle while the focus on Soha and her co-star Sameer is missing.

But Soha seems to be at ease with that. "I accepted the film because it has a very interesting, possessive-of-sorts story. It has lots of family dynamics. I have absolutely no qualms about not being highlighted as a younger heroine. And it is because so far, I have only one professional release while Dimpleji and Rishiji are far senior to me in the film industry."

And she minces no words in admitting that she is choosing a multi-starrer film for specific reasons.

"I am so new to the industry. I still don't find myself capable of carrying a film solely on my shoulders. If my comparisons with other actors are talked about, I take it in my stride because it helps me analyse my acting skills and the areas I have to work in."

In Rituparno Ghosh's Antarmahal, she plays the central role. And the very mention of the film brings lots of energy in her expression. "I had a lot of learning and unlearning experiences. The Bengali that is used in the film is not that we speak today. So it was a little difficult for me to deliver dialogues. My character in the film has some grey shades too. I am married to a man played by Jackie Shroff but the character has some subtle interests elsewhere. This film has helped me a lot in growing as an actor."

Her next release is Aamir Khan's Rang De Basanti. "This film will make people form a good opinion about me," claims the actress refusing to give away her character in it.

And what next? "After these releases, I would like to sit back and analyse my performances before I take up new assignments. I need to know what I can do best."

Intelligent decision, we say!
