Nine days of festivity

The spotlight will be on Karnataka's art and craft at the Dusshera Festival at DakshinaChitra

DakshinaChitra brings heritage to life with the Dusshera Festival from September 16-25. The theme this year is Shakti and Shringara (power and beauty).

Dusshera is one of the most popular festivals in Karnataka, especially in Mysore. As part of the fete, DakshinaChitra is planning a series of events. The folksy Pooja Kunita performances have been organised on all the nine days. Golu or doll arrangements will be the highlight in at the heritage houses. In fact, some of the dolls on display are more than a century old and can be seen only during the festival. What's more, craft lovers can pick up an array of artefacts from the Crafts Shop, including foaming jewellery from Bangalore, bidri worked artefacts, Illkal saris and Chennapatna, Mysore and Chittara paintings. Also on display will be Lambani embroidered pieces and a range of beauty care products. Cuisine typical to Karnataka can be savoured the Kanali restaurant, MGM. For more information, call 2446235.
