Designs on the West

STAR POWER Raima Sen with designers at Studio Buds

Gone are the days when one had to crave for designer wear. These days it's easily accessible and is priced reasonably as well. Studio Buds at Rajouri Garden is another promising addition.

Inaugurated by the Bollywood actress Raima Sen, the two-storied boutique has a collection exclusively for women from everyday wear to wedding trousseau. `A tribute to womanhood' is the motivation of the store that primarily has three designer labels by Anu and Poorva by Yuvraj and by Neha and Abhinav.

Manoj Dang, the proprietor claims, "Studio Buds will act as a launch pad for the young designers. I believe that there is tremendous potential and this must not be wasted. Besides, I chose West Delhi because I want people of this region to get access to fashionable designer wear without having to run to the South all the time."

The collection is colourful for Poorva believes, "Colours add to the confidence of the lady." The assemblage has ethnic to Indo-Western, to Western wear. Flamboyant use of stones, sequins, embroidery, mirror work and swarovski has been flawlessly blended with fabrics like chiffons, georgettes and silk.

The young designer, Yuvraj, who started designing at the age of thirteen, has made interesting use of colour contrast. "I have basically done formal, evening wear. There is use of brocade, chiffons and silk. There are Arabic salwars with heavy, highlighted neckline kameez," informs the designer holding out a splendid blue outfit. His collection also has 1960s patiala salwars with flower motifs and Spanish trousers in vibrant colours.

On the other hand, Anu Dang has used lots of georgettes, chiffons with discharged printing, stacked hemlines, geometric cuts, layering with mirror and brass work making her collection stand out. Her salwar suits have a sheer blend of sequin work with crinkled dupattas, presented in a sharp colour contrast.
