Tell Me That You Want Me!... Times Music... Rs. 195
Of the eight tracks in this CD, we have already heard three - `Duniya Mein... ' from `Apna Desh' , `Yeh Mera Dil... ' from `Don' and that enchanting hit from the inimitable O.P. Nayyar, `Mohabbat Karlo' from `Aar Paar' but a word of caution is in order - these have been rendered with a good measure of bad rap thrown in, as is to be expected in this age of remixes.
The first track, `Mundaya' is passable, but the Stadium Mix version of the same song, with its countless repetition of lines, is irritating, to say the least.
The remaining songs are an inharmonious mix of Punjabi, Hindi and English lyrics and music.
This is just another eminently forgettable album, though touted - by the CD cover - as overflowing with `glamorous croonings, melodic nuances, soulful renditions, haunting lyrics and rhythmic elucidations'. One can safely say `We don't want you!'
Vande Mataram... An electronic Explosion
Music Today (CD), Rs 295
Folks, in one sentence, this one is worth collecting. All the nine compositions add nuances to this patriotic song that are unique to each.
We have heard of A.R. Rehman's version and felt good about a rather different treatment to the old song. But in this one, it has gone a step ahead.
With a superb use of electronic instruments to lead the way, the accompanying music, be it Musarrat Ali Khan's sarod, Shailendra Kumar's flute, Asgar Hussain's violin or Rakesh Negi's tabla and percussion, all have contributed to its overall beauty. Vocals by Shakti Singh and Radhika Chopra too have blended well into a single whole.
