Diverse strains and upbeat lyrics defined `One Night with LBG'
|
NO TALK OF DESTRUCTION Alternative rock band LBG
Difficult goals take a lot of doing. And, LBG set itself a difficult goal a few years ago when it decided to go `only original'. Considering the all-pervasive hankering for covers, the band's rise to acceptance as a "no covers band" is no ordinary achievement. Their album "This Animal Is Called The Wallet" may not be raking in the moolah, but it is definitely doing well.
An indication of LBG's success was a recent invitation to "Taj Coromandel presents ONE NIGHT with THE LBG". Their performance at Matchpoint explained why LBG is rated as one among the top bands in the country. The band does not restrict itself to one or two styles. An alternative rock band, its musicians bring diverse influences and musical interests to it. Its bass guitarist Arjun can spend endless hours lost in disco sounds; its lead guitarist Aum goes berserk over heavy metal. The other LBG musicians bring similarly striking contrasts.
`Rain' is a soft rock ballad. `Scaravag' is in the reggae mould. Forget the genre, `Money' sounds like a billion dollars.
Upbeat lyrics
LBG's lyrics are upbeat, not dark. They make this plain on their website, thelbg.com - "No talk of Satan, or death and destruction. We have enough of these things in this world."
Their themes wander over a wide field. `Amun' expresses ideas you saw in "The Lord Of The Rings'. `Money' is, well, self-explanatory. `Plastic' is about people who will not see beyond the visible, who have straws for spines. It reflects the sentiments in "We Are The Hollow Men".
