Indulge your inner epicurean

Minerva Grand is the latest entry on the city's restaurant-scape

NIBBLE AWAY For coffee and lip-smacking snacks, drop in at Fiesta

What: Minerva Grand
Where: Bhuvana Towers, S.D. Road
Tel: 27846633, 27844455

She is the Roman goddess of wisdom and crafts recognised by her helmet, spear, pomegranate, distaff and owl. Fans of J.K. Rowling's boy wizard know it is the Gryffindor head Mcgonagall's first name. And Hyderabadis know that Minerva is the place to go to for the most mind-altering coffee and piping hot paneer dosas.

In the beginning, 1982 to be precise, Minerva Coffee Shop was launched in Himayat Nagar and created a new lexicon as far as coffee and snacks went. The immense popularity of the chain saw outlets opening at Ameerpet and Vijaywada. Then as Necklace Road became so delightfully happening, there was Eat Street to fill the stomach as one ambled along amiably.

And now keeping with its divine Roman roots, comes Minerva Grand, a business class boutique hotel offering all an on-the-move tycoon would require. Before we go any further, to all who wonder what a boutique hotel is, according General Manager Subhomoy De, "It is all in the add ons. The works of art on the walls, the centrepiece on the table, the gym and the lending library among other things which defines a boutique hotel."

One's eyes are drawn to the said centrepiece, which is a little square hollow cut into the table covered with glass. The fun thing is you could fill it with whatever from the brilliantly coloured bits of glass to dried grain or spices.

Apart from the rooms - 105 in four grades, Minerva Grand boasts of a coffee shop, Fiesta, a multi-cuisine restaurant, Blue Fox, a lounge bar, Enigma, and Summit the banquet hall. Fiesta is open from 7 in the morning with a lunch buffet while dinner is a la carte. The Minerva tradition is upheld with delicious snacks and dosas served between 3.30 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. The cuisine is continental and Indian.

If you are in the mood for fine dining, then it has to be Blue Fox and you can choose from a range of Indian, Chinese and Continental. Lunch is served between 12.00 and 3.30 p.m. while dinner is between 7.00 p.m. and 11.30 p.m. And for your happy private parties, you could book a private dining room and have a time of your life. The one deviation from Minerva tradition is, non-vegetarian food is also being served as De comments, "We do not want to leave anyone out."

So everyone's invited to a dizzying degree of gourmand options. Let the party begin!
