It is exciting, it is pulsating, it is entertaining and it gives you that edge-of-the-seat feeling. Welcome to the world of go-karting at Kart World Racing located on the Manipal-Perampalli Road, Manipal.

For students studying at Manipal and the adventurous at Udupi, it is a favourite haunt during weekends. As you sit behind the wheel of a kart and drive, you are in a different world altogether. Go-karting is an adventure sport and has to be experienced, as it is difficult to explain in words. As you complete one lap after another, you can feel the adrenalin pumping. Rishabh, a student at Manipal who frequently goes karting, says: "There is nothing I enjoy more than go-karting. It is thrilling sport."

If you have someone for company, you can use the double-seat kart. If you are going in a group of 10 to 15, you can hire five to six karts and have an impromptu kart race. According to Prabhakar, the manager at Kart World students studying at Manipal often organise races here.

If you don't know karting, the marshals will tell how to use the kart. There are instruction manuals that give you elaborate directions. Children above the age of 10 can drive but pregnant women and those with heart ailments and spinal problems should avoid it. Kart World has an elaborate set of rules and regulations for the participants. Helmets have to be worn compulsorily. Loose clothing and garments such as scarves and duppattas are a strict no-no. If a participant is stopping on the track, he has to do so gradually, and raise his hand to warn the drivers behind. Also drivers should obey all the flag signs.

The organisers charge Rs. 50 for four laps in a single-seat kart, Rs. 100 for five minutes in a single-seat kart, Rs. 100 for four laps in a double-seat kart, Rs. 150 for five minutes in a double-seat kart, Rs. 30 for four laps in a kids single-seat kart, Rs. 60 for five minutes in a kids single-seat kart. There are also discounts for students from Manipal. For details call 08202573583.
