STYLE STATEMENT Capturing the '60s

Namrata G's autumn-winter collection is out in the market. Fashion across the globe was affected by the changing attitudes and values of the early '60s.

Social mobility, daring fashion photography, new music of the Beatles and their much copied hairstyles, retro and ethnic clothes, musicals, pop art and films all played a major role in defining the '60s, adds Namrata.

Namrata's new collection tries to capture this naughtiness of the '60s.

This designer has used bold floral prints, empire waistlines, corsets, knotted cholis, and flowing textures in this collection to bring in that retro feel.

The '60s, observes Namrata, also gave a new twist to men's fashion. The male was given a new and more interesting look by moving away from boring plain shirts to bolder printed shirts and trousers. Hence, Namrata has used psychedelic and bold prints, bold stripes and embroidered motifs in the men's clothes.

The collection comes in colours lsuch as qua, lime green, hot peach and off whites for her designs and the fabric she uses are voiles, cottons, linens and blends for men to flowing textures like georgettes, structured denims for women.

Women can pick up mini skirts, micro minis, pencil skirts and pedal pushers along with saris in bold prints that come with embroidered and knotted cholis.

"This collection is all about being happy," says Namrata.

Namrata G's stores, Studio Kairos and Studio Cocoon, are located at 19, Lavelle Road (Phone: 22272662) and at C4, Leela Galleria, Hotel Leela Palace, Airport Road, (Phone: 51150088).
