Shriya unplugged

Shriya takes stock of her career and life

CUTE & CONFIDENT Shriya refuses to be beaten by flops PHOTO: K. GAJENDRAN

She is glowing. Her body language screams confidence. Her chiselled features and her delicately built diminutive stature belies a strong yet sensitive personality. And also hides an equally intriguing character.

The five-year stint in the film industry has seen Shriya through more downs than ups. But Shriya refuses to be beaten. She has bounced back in a different avatar in each of her films. A tête-à-tête with contemporary Telugu cinema's glam gal.

On bagging more films despite flops: Most of the films that released this year were supposed to have hit the screen in 2004. I don't like to sign films just to be in circulation. It is nice to get work and that too with different directors. Sometimes you do a lot of films but they might not fare well and sometimes you have very few projects on hand and luckily for you all, of them might take off. So there's no relation between the work you do and the film being a success. If my films are not doing well and if still I'm being offered more it's basically because of the goodwill I've got in the industry and also because of the image I have on screen, thanks to my directors.

On Mogudu, Pellam O Dongodu: When I heard the script , I wanted to be a part of the project . The concept was new to Telugu films and it had only three characters. It is a two-hour simple story and the entire energy was trapped in one room. Since I was the protagonist there was so much to learn and emote. Venky is such a fabulous director and made the work atmosphere very lively. The film makes you think constantly and every expression had to be different from the rest because the emotions kept evolving gradually. We shot for 30 to 35 days for the first night sequence and, I wasn't bored wearing those costumes. I got to change them now and then.

Elated about new film

On Chatrapati: I'm very excited about the release. Prabhas is the cutest guy I've ever seen. He is very fun loving and working with the entire unit had me in splits all the time. Director Rajmouli is a very committed and a serious person. His wife helped me out with the costumes in this film. This film deals with the relationship between a mother and a son and my character, which helps the hero in carrying out the action. It's an important role and equally glamorous.

On her image of a good girl: What you are here is what you are portrayed by the director. Beyond that it's only your goodness, which helps you carry on with your career or your life. As an actress I believe that one should cooperate with the director and the co-stars and understand their demands. What you get is a result of what you gave. I'm also working in a Tamil film which is a remake of Varsham. A lot of intimate scenes have been cut down to give the character a innocent look. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and I hope the film gives a boost to my career. I want to do good roles and reach out to more audiences, that is one reason as to why I'm working in a Tamil film.

Bhageeratha with Raviteja is all ready to woo the people and I hope to do more good and interesting work. Regarding my wedding, I dont intend settling down till I'm happy and content with my work. So far I have not had my share of glory, there's so much to do and once I am satisfied with it, will let you all know.
