Hyderabad is fast becoming the `capital of Diabetes' in India and it calls for some serious thinking on the part of medical fraternity and lay people to prevent the disease from becoming a `dangerous epidemic'. Surakshaka Hospitals in Kukkatpally (KPHB Crossroads Ph: 23151000/23155126/23155127) is conducting an Exhibition and Patient Education Programme on the occasion of "World Diabetes Day" on November 14. The exhibition will be held at the premises of the Hospital from November 12 to 14 between 9.00 a.m. and 7.00 p.m.According to Dr. Lily Rodrigues, renowned diabetologist and Director, Suraksha Hospitals, diabetes is a lifestyle disease and is definitely preventable: About 20 per cent of the adult population is diabetic in Hyderabad whether or not diagnosed.
"All-work-no-play routine among youngsters, rice-eating habit and sedentary lifestyle are some of the causes of the growing cases of diabetes in the city," says Dr. Lily.
