Le Meridien gets a swank lobby thanks to architect Bobby Mukherji
|
ONE FOR THE LOBBY Le Meridien's new lobby designer Bobby Mukherji says, he has tried to incorporate all modern concepts into it
Art is one's expression of creativity and technology brings innovation. When the two are combined a new interpretation of design can be achieved. The newly-designed lobby of the Le-Meridien Hotel is one example. The designer behind this lobby is Bobby Mukherji, an Indian architect trained in New York. Among the things that provide the lobby a majestic look is the massive freestanding 24 feet glass sculpture designed by Mukherji himself and executed by Stephen Gromley, world famous glass sculptor. The large backlit alabaster panel fabricated in Barcelona is placed in the backdrop of the glass sculptor. The massive under-lit glass staircase leading down to banquet halls adds to the grandeur of the lobby.
Further, the new age video graphic art which has been specially flown in from Los Angeles, has replaced the traditional paintings on the wall.
"We have tried to incorporate all the modern concepts giving it a global approach. All the material has been procured fromforeign sources and manufacturers. For instance, the white wood is from Como (Italy) and wheatish floor from Denmark. The solid panels of milky glass are made by Nippon Electrical Company. We have installed a dimming panel in each room controlled by a microchip, which works very gently. We have even designed different suites for people of different age-groups and thinking," informs the designer.
