A new trend

The latest craze among Hindi channels is to promote films for which they have satellite rights.

It was Sony which started the trend of having Mandira Bedi to anchor and promote films aggressively and later telecast trivia about the film including its making, music and even scenes that were edited from the theatrical release. Zee and Sahara also started promoting their films in a similar manner. Last week, STAR Network premiered "Viruddh" the Amitabh Bachchan starrer the same day at different time bands across all its channels. Sahara's "Sarkar" promotions were equally slick and were shown twice last Sunday.

And last Friday, STAR Gold telecast a one-hour special show "Bluffmaster Kaun?" with Abhishek Bachchan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Priyanka Chopra coming together, each trying to outdo the other in a talk on who the real bluffmaster was. Watch out for Sony's "Parineeta" premiere on Christmas Day (December 25) at 8 p.m.
