On glamour's calendar

Kingfisher's calendar for 2006 is all set to sizzle the New Year

Exotic locales, ravishing silhouettes and visages that could launch a thousand ships — put the three into a heady mix and the product that comes to mind is a calendar that holds a `scorching' promise all through the year. A shutterbug's dream, ever since the inaugural edition of the Kingfisher calendar was published in 2003 followed by consecutive editions launched by Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan, the supporting URL www.kingfishercalendar.com has recorded a million hits every week, while the calendar is a multimedia property by itself.

Conceived by liquor baron and United Breweries chairman Vijay Mallya, the glossy offering is not just a spill over of his flamboyant lifestyle.

Limited edition

Mailed to a select list in 54 countries where Kingfisher beer is sold, the limited edition calendar has given fillip to fashion in this part of the world.

Models who have graced the calendar include Katrina Kaif, Pia Trivedi, Ujwala Raut, Vidisha Pawate and Yana Gupta donning lines by Aki Narula, Anshu Arora Sen, Hemant Trivedi, Manoviraj Khosla, Ritu Beri, Rocky S, Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and others, not forgetting the ace photographer Atul Kasbekar.

From the scorching sun of Masai Mara to wild Australia — tropical Cairns, the magnificent Great Barrier Reef and scenic Kangaroo Island, the calendar lines up more sizzle and fun this year.

"This year's calendar extends the global fashion platform to all new faces and all new designers. Design entries were invited from 12 design schools including NID, NIFT, SNDT, Srishti and Sophia Polytechnic. Over 100 entries poured in and 24 made it to the shortlist with an exclusive cover done by Wendell Rodricks," says Mallya.

Did you say a bevy of beauties in stunning swimwear against the Australian rockscape? That's exactly what the 12 leaves have in store for you. Cheers!
