Parikrma Foundation's rock show held at the Palace Grounds recently saw bands coming in from Shillong, Delhi and Mumbai

The rock show featured the Shillong-based blues-rock band Soulmate for a whole 45 minutes making the show relatively more interesting than other such shows in recent times. Soulmate was the only blues band among the three other bands that performed — Galeej Gurus, Zero and Orange Street. While Galeej Gurus has been performing fairly frequently in Bangalore, Mumbai-based Zero and the Delhi-based Orange Street have been here a couple of times or more. Zero vocalist Rajeev says Bangalore hasn't exactly been a happy hunting ground for the band. "We don't know why, but we haven't had a great time in Bangalore. It must be because there's too much metal here. This time the response has been good though, but is that because it's a general audience that wants to enjoy a rock show? Could be. But we're happy." Zero has done well in Mumbai and Delhi.

Orange Street on the other hand hit it off well. The band's aggro-stuff goes down well with college folks here. The band mixes metal, hard rock, rap, Indian classical and electronica-fusion rock. Vocalist Bhan says Orange Street has done well both times it's been in Bangalore. Bhan is a "loud guy" and is all body language, a theatre on stage. "I like being aggro. I like energy. My stage act and my body language is not a gimmick. It is part of my persona. And when the audience responds, it gives you a kick and you just want to do more."

Orange has done best in Kolkata and Bangalore. The band has just finished touring Norway, Sweden, Estonia and the U.K. and is set for another European tour in 2006.
