All wrinkles are not the same. Those creasing your face when you yell at your teenager is not the same as the ones that sit on your jaw all day and do not go away even when you pucker your mouth. While the first are dynamic wrinkles (lines in motion), the second are static (lines at rest).
"Each requires a different treatment," said Dr. Maithili Kamat, associate medical coordinator, Kaya Skin Clinic, at the launch of Kaya's new skin-tightening procedure in Chennai. She decried the one-size-fits-all approach to skin care.
"We have devised what is called a Skin Age Analysis Index which gives every client a `skin health score' based on multiple parameters such as fine lines, wrinkles and muscle sag. However, two clients who have the same score might have different problems. While one might have too many open pores, the other's skin might be pigmented. After ascertaining key reasons for skin-ageing, we chalk out a treatment programme that involves one or a set of solution."
Non-surgical method
She said, "The solutions are all non-surgical with no downtime and in most cases, the client can walk in during lunch break and be back on time for the second half of the day." Here are some solutions:
Solution 1: "Kaya photo-facial uses laser to stimulate and redistribute collagen around the selected area. This is complemented by skin polishing which exfoliates dead cells."
Solution 2: "Non-surgical facelift or delivering tiny micro-current impulses to the face and neck to tighten and tone up sagging facial and neck muscles."
Solution 3: "Botox or the use of purified protein derivative to iron out crow's feet, frown lines between the eyes, smile lines around the eyes and horizontal wrinkles on the forehead."
Solution 4: "Fillers that, as the name implies, fill out facial grooves, especially lines around the mouth. Temporary fillers that use restylane and perlane produce results that last for six to eight months. Permanent fillers are not permanent but last longer - five to seven years."
Solution 5: "The age-old method of applying glycolic peel (that's made up of alphahydroxy acids extracted from fruits) to decrease the build-up of dead cells on the skin and also to cleanse it."
