Casper comes calling

With Casper merchandising soon coming to India, one can look forward to some spirited visitations

SCREEN PRESENCE Casper is a movie star too

Casper, the friendly ghost, was created by Seymour Reit and illustrated by Joseph Oriolo. He made his first appearance in a film short, The Friendly Ghost (1945). Casper then appeared in There's Good Boos Tonight (1948) and A Haunting We Will Go (1949). By 1950, Casper was so popular that Paramount expanded the features into a television series.

In 1952, Harvey Publishing became the sole publisher of Casper books. In 1958, Paramount sold the character of Casper to Harvey Entertainment, which went on to publish Casper comics for more than 40 years.

Now Casper is coming to India, thanks to Ultra Movie Channel Ltd., which has tied up with Harvey Entertainment. Ultra has merchandising rights for all Casper products in India and plans to market products such as stationery, toys, games, ceramics, apparels, furniture, interiors, fixtures, furnishings, gifts, greeting cards and more.

Through this tie up, Ultra has acquired the video rights for the Casper series for all home-viewing formats including VCDs, DVDs, cable TV, terrestrial TV and Satellite TV as well as rights to dub the series in various languages.

Now we can look forward to meeting Casper, the friendly ghost who prefers to help rather than scare — much to the disgust of the Ghostly Trio — the cute witch Wendy and other people of the enchanted forest right in our homes.
