CELEB WEDDINGS Does the media have the right to stalk stars?
Every channel and every newspaper has been going to town about Aamir Khan's marriage to Kiran Rao. Poor television journalists had literally parked themselves (probably with food and water packed!) in front of the star's home in Mumbai to catch a glimpse of the couple. Journalists were even roughed up by cops when they followed them to Panchagani.
But journalists, I guess, are a robust lot! The photographers, stood firm (somewhat like sharpshooters) to make their kill. They risked their lives and climbed up tall buildings to get a picture of the wedding reception in Bangalore. This, even as the couple ducked behind trees!
Aren't events more important than a film star's wedding happening in this country for journalists to write about and capture on camera?
In the light of all this, the responses of people in the Metro Forum column (MetroPlus, January 5) is reassuring. A lot of people have said that the couple should be left alone. In fact, in a press interview, Aamir has said: "My marriage is not an event of national importance. If the media wants to make it one, it's their problem, I will not be a party to it."
